If you're new to padel and wondering what your first session will be like - you’re in the right place. At Padel Shift, we believe everyone should feel confident stepping onto court, regardless of their experience level. That’s why we run Intro to Padel sessions at all of our venues - a welcoming, structured way to learn the game, meet others and start playing in a relaxed, supportive environment. Here’s what to expect and why we think you’ll love it.

A friendly welcome

When you arrive, whether at Elkstone Studios or Daylesford Farm, you’ll be greeted by one of our experienced coaches. They’ll introduce you to the group (our sessions are kept small, so you won’t get lost in the crowd), set you up with a racket if needed and explain how the session will run. No experience is required - these sessions are designed specifically for beginners.

Learning the basics

The session begins with a simple introduction to the rules and layout of the padel court. You’ll learn:
- Basic positioning and technique
- How the walls come into player
- How to score
- How to serve underarm

You'll cover core shots including:
- Forehand and backhand groundstrokes
- Volleys at the net
- And, of course, how to use the glass walls - one of the most unique parts of the game

Our coaches explain everything clearly with time to practise each shot. Most players are rallying within the first half hour and playing a game by the end of the session.

A social, supportive atmosphere

Padel is a doubles sport and that team element is part of what makes it so fun. From your first session, you’ll be working with a partner, supporting each other and learning together. There’s no pressure, no judgment  just a great group of people trying something new.

Learn through play

Rather than long drills, we focus on learning through doing. Once you’ve got the hang of the basics, you’ll start playing short points and mini games, with coaching tips along the way.

You’ll get a feel for:
- Positioning and teamwork
- When to defend or attack
- Using the walls tactically
- And most importantly - enjoying the game

We’ll finish with a quick recap and give you tips for next steps: joining our WhatsApp community, future coaching, casual games, or matchplay sessions.

What you’ll walk away with

By the end of your first session, you’ll:
- Understand the basic rules and scoring
- Be able to serve, rally, and volley
- Feel comfortable using the glass walls
- Be ready to book your next session or game
- And chances are you’ll want to get straight back on court.
